Margaret Place Hotel

Margaret Place Hotel is a project conceived by the Owner as his private residence, boutique hotel and event space in the Lower Garden District neighborhood of New Orleans. The original brick two-and-a-half story side-hall townhome was originally built circa 1860 and underwent a number of modifications over the years. The primary house is supplemented by a rear service wing and connector as well as a two-story carriage house at the rear of the property constructed circa 1895-96. Despite the numerous changes, the significant architectural elements and layout remained largely intact.

In its current form, the main house of Margaret Place is fully occupied by guest rooms and the first-floor double parlor. Moving back through the house, the dining room overlooks and connects to the courtyard courtesy of three new French doors. The newly refitted kitchen is designed to handle the demands of a high-end event space. At the rear of the site, the two-story wood-framed carriage house overlooks the courtyard and is connected via an exterior gallery. The Owner’s background in architecture and interest in materials, texture, and pattern guided the interior design selections throughout, imbuing the hotel with his own personal touch. Historic brick and plaster are restored throughout, contrasting harmoniously with lush new wallpapers, bold colors, custom millwork, and spa-like bathrooms.

Throughout the year, Margaret Place plays host to weddings, parties, movie nights, musical performances, and other special events, and has become a seamless staple in the neighborhood. The project received state and federal historic rehabilitation tax credits.
